ICT as a Situating Tool (ངོ་མ་བཟུམ་ཚོར་སྣང་བྱིན་མི་ལག་ཆས།)
What is mean by Situating Tool?
Situating tools (ངོ་མ་བཟུམ་ཚོར་སྣང་བྱིན་མི་ལག་ཆས།) are system/ application which situate user in an environment where they may 'experience' the context and happening. Situating tool are VR (Virtual realities), 3D computer simulated images experiential learning environment, simulation instructional games. It creates situations which the students experienced in real life virtual environment. For example like flight simulation program is an example of situating tools which places the user in a simulated flying environment.
💡 Situates user in the environment,
💡 Comprehend and manipulate variables,
💡 Communicate with others user login, and
💡 Foster creativity and visualization skills.
How we integrate situating tool in teaching and learning❓
- Experience of virtual reality environment using Google Earth of the visiting place and knowing about the world.
- Calculate the distance of the place using Google Earth.
- Using educational software such as GraphCalc and GeoGebra for predicating and observing the variables for generating line graphs.
- Using Simulation games for feel the experiences about the virtual reality environment such as flight, driving and Bug on the wire.
In today's class sir has given us opportunity to explore simulation games on 'Bug on the wire' which helped me to experience the virtual reality of playing a game. It also provides opportunities to interact with real life situations without danger, expenses and difficulty.
Not only that, we also played flight simulator which helped me to get the experience of flying above high altitude and high speed to another destination. In addition to that, we also explored on Google earth where it takes me to reach out the place wherever I like within the short period of time. It also gave me real life-like experience and helped me to search the location of the place such as distance, altitude and also landforms of places.
I personally felt as a educator, integrating situating tools in teaching and learning is very important because it helps the learners to experience real life situation and also foster creativity and visualization skills.
Examples of Situating Tools
1. Google Maps
Google Maps is a Web-service that provides detailed information about geographical regions and sites around the world.
2. Google Earth
Google Earth is a computer software that creates a three-dimensional picture of the Earth using satellite photos. It enables individuals to create, store, view, and interact with data as it relates to location.
3. GraphCalc
GraphCalc is an open-source computer software that functions as a graphing calculator and works on Microsoft Windows and Linux.
4. GeoGebra
GeoGebra is a dynamic mathematics software for all levels of education that combines geometry, algebra, spreadsheets, graphing, statistics, and calculus into a single, user-friendly application.
5. Simulation games
